If we make it through March.....

The last two months have been crazy around here.  The husband has been having overtime like crazy, and several of the licenses I hold come due during Feb and March.  Renewing licenses means taking classes, most of which were cancelled or rescheduled during the snow storms.  One of my classes was rescheduled 3 times.  March is also the month I re certify and train for working at Kansas Speedway.

My last 2 "big" classes are this weekend, and then I have some more through April 2.  After this weekend however, they will slow down.  I have had weeks were I was either a student or teaching every day of the week.

My husbands overtime also will be (hopefully) slowing down starting next month.

Of course, we have to have another snow storm thrown in to the mix.  It is supposed to possibly start later tonight.  My class on Sunday is in Kansas, so it may be a 4 x 4 trip depending on how much snow we get.  Hopefully we don't get as much as the weatherman says.  If it snows over a certain amount, my husbands employer keeps him at a nearby hotel since he is considered an essential employee.  (I consider him an essential husband, but since I don't pay the bills, they win on this one...

The kids are also ready for spring and warmer weather.  We are wanting to do some riding, and get going on the garden and lawn.  But until then, we have the dreary cold days of winter....spring.

Scholarship info for Seniors

This is scholarship info for seniors who have an account at Community America.  I have been told they do this yearly--many banks and credit unions do.  So, you may want to check with your own credit union or bank, or have your child start an account here.  To enter this scholarship contest, they must have had an account for 6 months.  So, for kids graduating after this year, you might consider having them start an account here.
https://www.cacu.com/emeritus-scholarship-2013

Other places do yearly scholarships as well, such as electric co-ops and other utilities, Kohls, 4H and scouts.  Many employees have them for the children of their employees.

I have heard the argument that homeschoolers can't get scholarships.  That is not true.  I have known many who have received them, including one of my daughters (Kohls).  Hunt around, and you will find them!

Many scholarships require some volunteer work, along with good grades, and often participation in certain organizations--such as being in 4H for a 4H scholarship, or belonging to the bank, if it is from the bank, or the child of a veteran......

Normally, you want to start researching for scholarships early, as most have a deadline--I suggest 1-2 years before their senior year.  Some you can apply for early, some you need to wait until their senior year for.  But, by locating them early, you know where to return and what the deadlines are.

Faith

  • Professor : You are a Christian, aren’t you, son ?

    Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, you believe in GOD ?
    ...
    Student : Absolutely, sir.

Professor : Is GOD good ?

    Student : Sure.

Professor: Is GOD all powerful ?

    Student : Yes.

Professor: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to GOD to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But GOD didn’t. How is this GOD good then? Hmm?

    (Student was silent.)

Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

    Student : Yes.

    Professor: Is satan good ?

    Student : No.

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

    Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

    Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

    Student : Yes.

Professor: So who created evil ?

    (Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

    Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

    (Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

    Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

    Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smelt your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

    Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

    Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

    Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

    Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

(The lecture theater became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, well you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

    (The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

    P.S.

I believe you have enjoyed the conversation. And if so, you’ll probably want your friends / colleagues to enjoy the same, won’t you?

Forward this to increase their knowledge … or FAITH.

By the way, that student was EINSTEIN.

She is still off the ground

My car was parked on snow packed snow......It was about 15 inches deep here.  As the snow is melting, it has melted under the wheels where the sun can reach it, but not under the car.  Now, my front wheels are about 1/2 inch off the ground.  The rear wheels are between 4 and 5 inches off the ground.  The car is being supported by the snow that is packed underneath it.  Its been off the ground a few days now.

Right now we have thunder and lightening.  I hope we get some warm rain to melt it, but its already got a moat around it.....If I do get it off the snow, its just going to be stuck in the mud.....

Please RSVP by comment to this page with the number of people in your group, your name and email and phone number.

    Science Expo Coming Up

After I hosted the Creation Workshop, I started getting more and more request for other workshops, specifically in the areas of science and history.  So, this spring, I will be hosting a Science Expo.

Basically this will be open for all homeschoolers (and their parents).  Each student (or each family if they don't want to do more than one) will prepare an exhibit, collection, display or experiment to show.  We will set them up by category, and view them.  Then, we will all sit and one at a time let the contributors explain to the group their item.  Depending on how many show up, we will allow each person from 3-10 minutes to "show and tell" what they brought.

Most likely entries will not be judged--this is to be a learning workshop, not a competition.  Of course, any entries that have already been entered into previous science fairs are more than welcome.  Parents can also bring something of interest.

Like the Creation Workshop, we will all bring our own sandwiches for lunch, and a potluck item (salad, desert or dish) to share.  We will take a 45 or 60 minute lunch break.  Parents can visit and kids can run off energy.  Then, we will finish.

Most likely it will be held at my church in Holt MO, during April or May, but I need to work out the details (date) with our minister first.  Don't panic, Holt is only about 12 minutes from Liberty, just north on I35.  It is very easy to get to, and a very small town, and the church is easy to find.  If time allows, we can "possibly" also get in a fire station visit as well.  But, I need to first nail down the date before I can schedule this with my fire chief.  The fire station is just one block from the church, and we could easily walk to it.

So, stay tuned for the date, and more information.  Meanwhile, start thinking of ideas!!!

Ideas could include:  rock collection, poster on the heart, how a fire extinguisher works, microscope with slides for others to view, ant farm, how do seeds sprout, experiments......  Use your imagination!

    Not much help....

Since the snow storm, we have been driving our 4 wheel drives on the few days we could get out.  Driving a 4x4 takes a lot of fuel, let alone 3 of them going 3 seperate directions.....Today its halfway warm, and the snow is melting.

First, I went to dig out the Monte Carlo.  It is free of the snow, but stuck in the mud now...But I think after the ground refreezes tonight we can get it back onto the driveway.

Then I moved over to my car.  I got tired of digging my car out....(I was silly and tried to back it out a drift that had settled down to the back window--originally it was higher than my car).  I had this dumb idea that if I punched it real real hard, she might just go right thru the drift.  She didn't.  I asked for help, and this is what I got.....

Nutty dog......He wasn't much help at all

How to Seperate out the Egg Yolk

My mom sent this to me.  Its the link to a u tube video on separating the yolk from the white.  I guarantee it is a way you have never seen before.

Did I mention the video is in Chinese?  Don't worry, you don't have to understand Chinese to understand the video, as she has good clear step by step instructions.

    Chicken Pot Pie

A friend of mine posted on facebook a couple days ago her chicken pot pie.  Got me hungry for some, so tonight I made mine.  I think it was the first time I have made it since we were married.  I was told I need to make it again.  Only one serving was left, and Emily hasn't eaten yet, so I guess that is hers.

If you want the recipe, click here and scroll down to it.

    A Vine House

I am planning on putting this in my garden area this year.  It would be simple to do, (after I cut some branches or saplings)...

    Bean house

Not sure where I will put it, and if I want vined veggies on it or flowers.....Still thinking this one through.

    Got Drugs???

The DEA is sponsoring a national drug take back day on April 27, 2013.  This is where you can take your unused or expired medications for proper disposal.  A lot of people leave them in the medicine cabinet, and some medications actually can turn toxic over time.  Others dump them down the drain or toilet, and don't realize that it can harm septic systems, leach into nearby wells or ponds, and make its way back into the drinking water supply.

So, dispose of them the right way.

    Internet Explorer Issue

Since blogspot made some changes awhile back, my blog doesn't want to work well in Internet Explorer.  It seems to do fine in google chrome.

It even says above the top, best viewed in google chrome....

Yet, almost daily I get comments and emails that it won't work in explorer.....yeah, I know.

But, if anyone knows the fix, I'd be happy to hear it!
