Emily finishes 3rd at Homeschool Spelling Bee

This morning the girls and I went to the CPHE Spelling Bee in Kansas City. Emily came in third for the 7th grade division. She came home with a certificate and a ribbon.

After the spelling bee we went to Sonic and got a lunch to take to Smithville Lake and eat. The spillway was open so the girls had fun watching the water come rushing through. It was only up to the 3 foot marker, but had a very high current. We plan on visiting the lake again several times this summer.

This evening, the women at church are being served dinner by the men for a Ladies Night Out Banquet. The girls are getting all decked out now getting ready to go.

I was happy to discover your Countryside Life blog today. I was unable to find an email link in your profile. I hope it's OK that I'm contacting you through a public comment. I've developed an educational program for Windows called SpellQuizzer that helps children learn their spelling and vocabulary words without the battle that parents often have getting them to sit down and write them out while the parents dictate to them. The parent enters the child's spelling words into the software making a sound recording of each word. Then the software helps the child practice his or her words. It really helped my children with their weekly spelling lists.

I would appreciate your reviewing SpellQuizzer in Countryside Life. You can learn more about the program at http://www.SpellQuizzer.com. There's a video demo you can watch at http://www.spellquizzer.com/SpellQuizzer-Demo.htm. I'd be happy to send you a complimentary license for the software. Please let me know if you are interested.

Thank you very much!

Yes, Dan I would be interested. I have one daughter who finds spelling very difficult. She prefers to spell words exactly how they sound, which in the English language, is most often not correct. She would be a good test!

Hi April!
I found your blog through my daughter-in-law's blog, "A Mother's Journey Into Homeschooling." Both of my children are grown, but I couldn't help but congratulate your daughter, Emily, on her Spelling Bee win! GO EMILY!! Such coincidences though: my daughter's name is April, one of my granddaughter's names is Emily, and I won the Pike County, Kentucky Spelling Bee when I was in sixth grade! I started a Blog quite a while back, but I just can't seem to get it up and running. Although mine is going to be geared more toward politics now (since the election). That wasn't my intention at first. But that's all I'll say for now. Blessings with your family and schooling your children.
Sincerely,
Pam Bartley
