Homemade Cleaner Recipes and Misc Other Recipes


  • Don’t use vinegar on marble, GRANITE or grout – it can damage the surface.

  • If you don’t have fresh lemons, Use the bottle of 100% lemon juice in your fridge. 

SOAP RECIPES

Automatic Dishwasher Soap 

Add equal parts of 20 Mule Team Borax and Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (not baking soda!). Stir together until well mixed.
A normal dishwasher will use 2 tablespoons per load

Fill the compartment with vinegar

Homemade Liquid Laundry Soap- Front or top load machine- 

4 Cups hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax-
Grate bar of soap and add to saucepan with water.
Stir continually over medium-low heat until soap dissolves and is melted.-
Fill a 5 gallon bucket half full of hot tap water.
Add melted soap, washing soda and Borax.
Stir well until all powder is dissolved.
Fill bucket to top with more hot water.
Stir, cover and let sit overnight to thicken.
-Stir and fill a used, clean, laundry soap dispenser half full with soap and then fill rest of way with water.
Shake before each use. (will gel)
-Yield:
Liquid soap recipe makes 10 gallons.-Top Load Machine- 5/8 Cup per load (Approx. 180 loads)-
Front Load Machines- ¼ Cup per load (Approx. 640 loads)

Powdered Laundry Detergent- Top load machine 

1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax-
Grate soap or break into pieces and process in a food processor until powdered.
Mix all ingredients.

For light load, use 1 Tablespoon.
For heavy or heavily soiled load, use 2 Tablespoons.

Yields: 3 Cups detergent. (Approx. 40 loads)

Bleach Alternative

 For a safer make it yourself bleach alternative, mix lemon juice and peroxide. Doesn't store well (goes flat), so I only make one days worth at a time.

Homemade OxyClean
recipe from  The Grocery Cart Challenge


1 cup water
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
1/2 cup baking soda

Mix together and soak laundry in it for 20 minutes to overnight and then wash as usual. Or you can just skip the water and pour the peroxide and baking soda directly into the wash with your laundry soap and wash as usual.

Inexpensive Fabric Softener Recipe 
1 Cup White Vinegar Add vinegar to rinse cycle.
Works great. Removes residue and odors. Also helps to keep washing machine and hoses fresh and clean too.



Homemade Febreze 

What you'll need:
1/8 Cup of fabric softener 
2 tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot tap water
Spray bottle 

Preparation:
Using a funnel, pour fabric softener and baking soda into your spray bottle. Fill spray bottle with hot tap water and shake well. Don't forget to twist the nozzle over to the LOCK position before shaking.


All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

For counter tops, sinks, toilets, and for spot cleaning floors that do NOT contain grout.
Mix 1 part white vinegar and 1 part water in a spray bottle. Spray and scrub.

For really tough soap scum or mineral deposits, warm the solution first, spray, and let sit before scrubbing, or use straight vinegar .



Bathtub / Sink Scrub

In a bowl, make a paste with baking soda, a squirt of your dish soap*, and a squeeze of lemon, to the consistency of frosting. Dip cloth or sponge into paste and scrub.
For really stubborn grime, allow to sit 10-15 minutes before rinsing.


Mirror &  Glass Cleaner

2 tsp vinegar
1 quart water
Mix in a spray bottle. Spray on mirror or glass, and wipe clean with old newspaper. (The ink doesn’t smear, and it leaves no lint!)

Floor Cleaner

1/4 Cup dish soap*
1/2 Cup white vinegar or lemon juice
2 gallons warm water
Combine in sink or large bucket, and use with mop.
You can use this on any floor, except marble, unless the manufacturer has specified to avoid detergents.

Furniture Polish #1
Juice of one lemon
two teaspoons olive oil
three to four tablespoons of water
Mix well and put into a spray bottle.  Does not store well, as the olive oil will go bad.

Furniture Polish #2
 1 cup olive oil
1/2 cup lemon juice
Mix together in a clean new spray bottle. To use, remember to shake before each application. Apply a small portion to your cleaning cloth. Spread the polish over the furniture, trying to polish evenly. Use another clean cloth to polish the surface dry.


Jewerly Cleaner for diamonds

1/2 cup dish washing soap
1/2 cup ammonia
1 1/2 cup water


Put ingredents into a large mouth glass jar.


 Soak jewelry for 10 minutes.
 Scrub with a baby toothbrush and then rinse.
 Dry off and polish with a dry cloth.



Other Misc Non-Food Recipes

Deicer/wiper fluid recipe 

#1) 3 parts vinegar and 1 part water. Put in a spray bottle and spray down your car windows at night.

#2) Use a bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol with 3 drops of dish soap. Apply liberally to the glass with a spray bottle at night. In the morning the ice slides off.

#3) Mix one part water to two parts rubbing alcohol. Apply to the window. Ice slides or peels off.
