Our chickens are also in a coop in the summer when the garden is growing because they get in there and scratch it up and take one peck out of every tomato. The rest of the year they can run free but not in the summer. The ducks we just got rid of, they could take out the whole bean patch in one night and every time a green pepper leaf would start to grow they would run over and nip it off.
